After years of mis-fitting her singing, voice and actor training, UK-based voice coach Imogen made her lifelong chronic illness into her life's work. Undertaking the first research into expressive voice work for hypermobile patients in 2020 (MA(hons)Central) her work straddles the world of health and the arts.

Now working with an international roster of hypermobile clients from singers to speakers who need specialist hypermobile voice training, she also works closely with EDS Support UK providing workshops and webinars for the community.

Recently invited to speak at VASTA's 40th anniversary conference in California, she is thrilled to join VSC to talk about her favourite topic: hypermobile voices.

In the non-EDS world, in February Imogen coached voices at Theatre Royal in Bath for Dickens’ David Copperfield where over 100 community members of all abilities took to the stage.

The Hypermobile Voice: An Overview

Imogen Roux

Have you heard the word "hypermobile" lately? Over-represented across the performing arts, symptomatic joint hypermobility and Ehlers-Danlos Syndromes (hEDS/HSD) remain widely misunderstood connective tissue conditions affecting the voice and the breath, proving to be a double edged sword for hypermobile speakers and singers. Join Imogen for a 2 hour introduction to the hypermobile voice, designed to inform and empower voice teachers and keep hypermobile students safe!
