MA Student Lisa Price Invited To Join Music Generation Forum

Music Generation is Ireland’s national music education programme and supports equality in learning, giving children and young people the opportunity to sing, create, play and perform music.
Last year, MA Voice Pedagogy student, Lisa Price, was invited to join Music Generation’s Early Years Communities of Practice forum.
The research Lisa is undertaking in her MA, which is focused on developing self-efficacy through music and singing from both student and teacher perspective, piqued the interest of Music Generation’s head office.
Lisa began working with Music Generation in October 2021 as a Primary School Music Educator and hopes that her research ideas or developed framework could be explored and taken on board in the national framework for teaching music in primary schools.

In Practical Magic: The Art & Science of Balancing Voices with SOVTs and VFEs, voice teacher and professional singer Melanie Tapson explored the science behind two widely used approaches to voice training: Semi-Occluded Vocal Tract Exercises (SOVTs) and Vocal Function Exercises (VFEs). Combining scientific explanations with practical demonstrations and interactive activities, the session examined how these techniques can support vocal efficiency, stamina and sustainable voice use. Rather than treating exercises as a one-size-fits-all solution, Melanie encouraged participants to understand what each exercise does, how individual voices respond and how to adapt techniques to achieve meaningful results.
