Develop Convincing and Respectful East and Southeast Asian English accents!
Tuesday 21st October 2025, 2:00 PM - 4:00 PM (London Time)
Join us for a practical accent workshop designed to develop convincing and respectful East and Southeast Asian English accents—specifically a Mandarin-influenced English and a Tagalog-influenced Philippine English.
This session is intended for actors, dialect coaches, speech-language practitioners, and anybody else who wants to embark on the journey of ESEA Accents learning!
We will be looking at the two accents separately, beginning with a concise linguistic and cultural background for each—how historical contact, education, and media shape their contemporary forms—then move into practical placement work for the mouth, jaw, tongue, and lips. From there we’ll isolate key vowel qualities and consonant substitutions for Mandarin-influenced English and Tagalog-influenced Philippine English, and finally integrate these segmental choices into prosody.
Practice will focus on short scripted passages, improvisation prompts, and slowly finding your confidence in embodying the accents.
