Microphone Technique, Equalizing, Compression, Effects and other Technical Shizzle
Thursday 7th November 2024, 5:00 PM - 7:00 PM (London Time)
If you and / or the singers you work with are singing other genres than classical, chances are very big you’re using a microphone. Knowing how to work with it is crucial, if you want to make the most out of your vocal performance.
I dare to say that 50% of your sound is determined by the microphone you’re singing through, what you do with it, and everything that happens after, like equalizing, compression, reverb, delay, what the sound engineer is doing from behind the mixer,…
So…
- Do you want to learn how to use your microphone functionally?
- Are you looking to understand the essential technicalities?
- Do you need to know how to create a sound that suits your artistic identity?
- Do you want to effectively communicate what you need to the sound engineer(s)?
Then this webinar is for you! You don’t need any prior knowledge or skills. Everybody is welcome, especially if you have never ever uttered a sound through a microphone (yet). These topics will be demonstrated ànd you will be invited to test everything out with your own gear at home during the webinar:
Microphones & what to do with them:
- Dynamic & Condenser Microphones: Which one is right for your voice / genre?
- Pick up patterns
- Do’s & Don’ts

- Compression: What does it do to your sound? Why do we need it?

Mindfulness and Voice: Exploring the Intersection through Peer-Reviewed Literature

Catherine Brown
Despite strong interest, only a handful of peer-reviewed studies have examined the relationship between mindfulness and voice. Emerging research indicates that mindfulness can help voice users learn to respond to stress more effectively and may help them manage performance anxiety. In this course, we will examine several types of peer-reviewed literature: a) mindfulness studies that indirectly relate to voice work. b) We will review research that examines mindfulness as it relates to voice-adjacent fields (e.g., music performance anxiety and stammering/stuttering). c) We will look at the few published studies that have directly investigated the relationship between mindfulness and voice and d) we will examine directions for future qualitative and quantitative research.
