Nasal Resistance Technique: Applications in Clinical and Performance Voice
Friday 11th July 2025, 5:00 PM - 7:00 PM (London Time)
This presentation introduces attendees to the Nasal Resistance (NR) Technique that combines semi-occluded vocal tract (SOVT) benefits with kinesthetic resonance awareness. The NR Technique promotes efficient glottal closure, resonance clarity, and smoother transitions across vocal registers. Its versatility makes it an essential tool for optimizing vocal efficiency in healthy, injured, and singing voices.
Dr. Nandhu Radhakrishnan will introduce the attendees to the theoretical background and clinical relevance of the NR technique using the nasal consonants /m/, /n/, and /ŋ/ (ng). Participants will actively engage in exercises involving nostril occlusion to experience first-hand the effects on airflow resistance, glottal closure, and sympathetic vibrations in the facial mask.
Dr. Kari Ragan will present studio applications of the NR Technique. Drawing from her extensive experience as a Singing Voice Specialist, she will demonstrate exercise patterns using glides and discuss their effectiveness across singing voice training. Attendees will learn how to apply the NR Technique to repertoire excerpts, fostering more efficient, kinaesthetically guided singing. Attendees will be encouraged to mirror exercises, adjust occlusion levels, and engage kinaesthetically through structured practice, ensuring a fully interactive experience.
Participants will leave with practical tools to integrate the NR Technique into teaching, therapy, and performance practices, enhancing sustainable, efficient voice production across diverse populations.

Music Theory Fundamentals for Voice Pedagogues
Dr David Cane
Voice pedagogy has advanced significantly in the last decades in relation to knowledge of the vocal apparatus (anatomy and mechanics), acoustics, and performance psychology (to name just a few subfields) – this is a wonderful thing! Nonetheless, musicianship and the foundations of music theory are still relevant to the teaching and coaching of singers and this course aims to empower voice teachers and coaches with skills to support the fundamental musicianship development of their students.

Feldenkrais Method® - its application in speech and song!
Marina Gilman
The Feldenkrais Method® is a form of somatic education that uses gentle movement and directed attention to improve physical and mental functioning, including singing and speaking. Since we are not always aware of the source of tension or discoordination, it is difficult to make the necessary adjustments to ensure optimal use of the voice!
