The Integration Of A Science-Informed Approach To The Application Of Teaching Singing

This workshop focuses on practical application and is based on Kari’s recent book Systematic Approach to Voice: The Art of Studio Application” published by Plural Publishing.
It looks at working with techniques with three key singers.
There will be an opportunity to observe, ask questions and develop pedagogically.
The workshop is ideal for those who wish to develop their practical application.
The workshop will take the following format:
5:00pm-5:15pm welcome and introduction
5:15pm-5:45pm Singer #1 (Female Classical) to demonstrate a specific protocol
5.45-6:15 Singer #2 (Music Theatre-emphasis on female belt aesthetic)
6:15pm-6:45pm Singer #3 Singer with injury/pathology
6.45pm – Q&A time
All sessions are recorded and will be sent out to all registered participants.
Dr Kari Ragan
Singer, author, and voice pedagogue Kari Ragan holds degrees from the University of Washington (DMA) and Indiana University (MM, BM). She was the recipient of the prestigious Van L. Lawrence Award (2012), the NATS Foundation Pedagogy Award (2009), and the Wicklund Singing Voice Specialist Certificate (2010), and she was selected as a Master Teacher for the NATS Intern Program in 2021.

Join Dr Justin John Moniz as he examines ethical practice in voice teaching through a structured, evidence-informed framework for sustainable, student-centered pedagogy. Although voice teaching operates outside formal licensure models common to allied professions, teachers hold significant responsibility for students’ vocal function, artistic development, and long-term well-being. This course addresses that gap through a five-part paradigm grounded in the NATS Code of Ethics, contemporary research, and applied studio practice.
