Jennifer Rhodes

Jennifer is a freelance Singing and Voice/Accents tutor, primarily working within conservatoire settings. Her expertise lies in working with singing actors, often integrating cross-curricular approaches across various musical styles. Jennifer's studies throughout her MA Voice Pedagogy programme have allowed her to forge deeper connections between the fields of spoken voice, linguistics, and singing, which she actively implements in her teaching studio. This culminated in the development of a specific teaching strategy designed to assist students with singing in regional accents.

Her most recent publication, "Singing in Regional Accents: The Cause for a Teaching Strategy," appeared in Voice and Speech Review in 2025. This paper highlights significant research conducted at the Voice Study Centre, University of Wales, revealing the challenges student performers face when attempting to sing in British regional accents, alongside a general preference for singing in US accents. Importantly, the research also identified a strong interest among singing teachers for practical teaching strategies to guide students in this area. Through this work, Jennifer aims to construct a pedagogical bridge between the disciplines of teaching spoken and sung voice, ultimately contributing to the development of valuable teaching resources that will better equip singing teachers to meet industry demands for their students.
